Our Training Program:

team roping

Rusty Butler has over 15+ years experience starting horses under saddle and training horses in many disciplines. He does not believe in whips, crops, or any other submissive devices are needed to train a horse properly. Rusty strives to teach the horse confidence and respect to make a relationship between both horse and rider one that has been formed in a steady consistent manner.

All horses are started out in a roundpen with the use of a lariat rope. Once our training horses are under saddle they are started in a sidepull, NOT a bit, so that they can learn to direct off of nose pressure and not have to concentrate on a saddle, rider, and a bit all at one time!

**We can transport your horse to and from our farm for training**

Rusty Butler specializes in:

  • Problem/abused horses
  • starting horses under saddle
  • horses with bad ground manners
  • horses with trailer loading issues
  • horses with farrier problems
  • spooky horses
  • horses ready to move into a new discipline, have not been ridden and need a refresher, those that need to learn to trail ride, rope, barrel race, western pleasure, or just pleasure ride!

Our Training Process:

All horses are given a day to settle into the look and feel of our property and to be at ease. Once horse is comfortable our trainer will begin work in the specified field of owner's interested. Due to the fact that we DO NOT push our training horses, some horses may learn slower than others. Please note any horses that have had very abusive pasts may take longer to gain confidence and retain training. Our training horses are worked with six days a week with one day off. We also do not cancel training due to rain unless it poses a hazard to the horse. Each horse is evaluated at the beginning and end of a 30 day training period. Once evaluation is complete our trainer will call and discuss further options for the horse, whether it be time to send the horse home to a client or add another 30 days.
